We are investigating the LM3017 for a 8-12V to 50 boost converter for charche 6000uF capacitor.

Input current shall be limited to max 1200 mA.

Does any one know an easy way to charge these large load capacitor, and in the same way limit the output and short circuit current ?

    Hi Sergey,

    I would suggest using a SEPIC topology. This will allow for inherent short circuit protection that is not present in a boost regulator.

    Please consider using the LM51551. This an updated version of the LM3017. The LM51551 has hiccup mode operation to help limit the power dissipation during a short circuit condition. If configured in a SEPIC topology the output current can be limited by sensing the current in the output inductor. This is shown in PMP30162 (R24)
