Will it work to connect a solar panel to the IN pin of the BQ2416x.

    A solar panel has high impedance output and will be pulled down by a dc/dc converter based charger unless that charger can limit input current as a function of its sensed input voltage. The BQ24161 has I2C controlled VINDPM but the range is only from 4.2V to 4.76V. If your panel's MPP (~=80% of its VOC) is which that range, then the BQ24161 might work. I recommend changing to a newer charger like BQ25895, which has a wider VINDPM range. If you also need dual input, you could add the TPS2121 power MUX in front of the charger.
