TPS7A54-Q1: Bias pin connection

Part Number: TPS7A54-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A54EVM-006

Please clarify the connection of the Bias pin when not used (Vin = 5.5V, Vo = 5V)

The Pin table states that "A 10uF capacitor or larger must be connected between this pin and ground" it also states the pin must be left floating or tied to ground if not used. The EVM has the pin floating and a 10uF cap to ground.

What is the correct configuration?

  • Hi Steve,

TPS7A54EVM-006 was developed to allow customers to evaluate the TPS7A54-Q1 under their intended application conditions. J5 is provided to apply a BIAS voltage if desired. Since your application does not require a BIAS rail, you may either float or tie BIAS to GND. In either case you do not need a BIAS capacitor if you are not supply a BIAS rail. As such, C10 could be removed on the EVM for your application.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
