TPS2121: About input negative voltage.

Hi Arthur.

I have one additional question about other case.

If  the supply1 is positive voltage and other supply is negative voltage connected, will the device break ?

In our case, It will be connect a battery and the other side  sometimes may be connect the reverse connected power supply.

My understanding is the current will flow through the internal diode when negative voltage is applied.

So ,  current due to negative voltage does not flow inside the device.

Sincerely.

Kengo.

  • Hi Kengo,

This is a good question. The abs max of the internal body FETs is 24V. Therefore, if 12V is on the first supply (IN1) while -12V is applied to IN2, the internal FETs and ESD structures will be stressed to 24V. There are two conditions that could occur:

    1. The device will stay off If the reverse voltage is applied before the positive voltage
    2. The device will turn off if the reverse voltage is applied after the positive voltage

As long as the device remains within the voltage absolute max, this application should be fine.

    Thanks,

    Arthur Huang
