BQ27510EVM: Data memory and learning cycle

Part Number: BQ27510EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27510,

I have purchased bq27510 evm and I am trying to perform a learning cycle. When I try to set the initial  parameters and write it to the gauge it shows error "value is beyond maximum value defined for parameter: Calibration.Data.CC Gain. I am not sure what to do ..

Also I am unable to set the State of charge . It always shows its 0%.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Priyadarshan

You need to follow the instructions in the EVM user guide in order to perform voltage, current and temperature calibration. Then you should follow the steps listed out in the app note below to get the gauge fully functional. Even though written for a sister device, the methods applied is the same.

  • Thank you onyx. It was very helpful. I was able to figure that out. Now there is another problem where the guide says that when i enter the IT_Enable(Gauge_EN) command and then the reset command the IT Enable will change from 01 to 04 in address. But whenever i press reset the gauge goes into sealed state. I try to unseal it and hit reset but it again goes into sealed. Is there any way I can keep the gauge at unsealed? Please let me know. I guess the guide does not have a solution for this.

  • I want to unseal the gauge permanently as I have not done any calibration or learning cycle yet. Everytime I give the 36720414 command in the control status and FFFF and then refresh it goes back to sealed state. Will permanent unseal be possible if i reprogram the gauge with firmware? If so please provide a Firmware file for the Bq27510Evm. Thank you.
  • once the gauge has been sealed, it can never go back permanently to an unseal state. Sending the reset command seals it. you will have to program the default srec to get the gauge to a state where sending the reset command doesn't seal it back. Also, the update status for this gauge goes from 00 to 01 to 02 during learning, After learning you are not to change the update status to 00, but rather keep as 02 for this gauge,
    thanks

  • Thanks Onyx.

Just to confirm is this the default srec I will have to program?
