BQ24005: BQ24005 status pin interface

Part Number: BQ24005

1. The BQ24005 has two status indicators stat1 and stat2. In a fault case the stat1 is pulsed and stat2 is off. What is considered as a fault case?.

2. Does temperature fault on the THERM pin fall under this fault condition? What is considered as a thermal shutdown?

3. Is it the shutdown caused due to the internal die temperature?

4. Do you have a reference design showing how to interface this charger with a microcontroller? Is there any other recommended linear charger that has all the features as the BQ24005?

  • Hello
The Flashing Stat1 Fault condition will be overvoltage or timer faults, not thermal. See Operational Flow Chart Figure 15.

The device will shutdown due to high die temp. but Stat 1 and Stat 2 will be off.

Sorry, no reference designs for this device.
  • Hello Bill,

Thank you for the reply. so the over-temperature caused because of the external thermistor (Therm pin) will also cause an off condition on the STAT1 and STAT2 along with a thermal shutdown fault. Is this accurate? when does the charger enter sleep mode? can i disable it?. The sleep mode status for the STAT1 and STAT2 pins is similar to the thermistor fault and thermal shutdown fault. I will need the host to isolate the sleep mode vs temp faults.

are there any other Linear chargers for a 2-cell Li-ion cell that you are aware of?

    Thank you,
    Gaurav
  • Hi Gaurav
Almost all of our linear chargers are single cell, very few dual cells.
Is a switching charger with I2C a possible options?
