I will use the regulator LM338/LM138 i need Vin=12V , VOUT=5V and IOUT =5A

wich one i can choose and how chouse the resistance and capacitor value

Hey Belhaj,

You can choose the regulator on whether or not you need the hermetic packaging.
The LM138 also has a larger temperature range than the LM338.

What resistor/capacitor values are you referring to?
The feedback resistors will be based on your output voltage.
The output capacitors are normally not needed, but can be added if the device is too far away from the input filter or needs a better transient response.

This is all detailed in both datasheets.
