TPS5420: Inrush start-up current limit.

Part Number: TPS5420
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM74700-Q1,

Hi,

On another post about reverse polarity protection, the LM74700-Q1 was suggested to me and I decided to go with the suggestion. However, reading LM74700's datasheet I found this statement: "During startup, inrush current flows through the body diode to charge the bulk hold-up capacitors at the output. The maximum source current through the body diode must be higher than the inrush current that can be seen in the application." (page 16)

My reverse polarity circuit will be attached to a TPS5420 DC/DC converter. It seems that TPS5420 has a slow startup circuit to limit inrush current, but I am not sure how much inrush current to expect.

On ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS section of TPS5420's datasheet it says its typical current limit is 4A. Does it mean I should expect 4A inrush current limit for my reverse polarity circuit design? If not, what is the inrush startup current for TPS5420?

I need this to choose a proper mosfet for my reverse polarity protection circuit.

Best Regards,

Eduardo
