TLC5941-Q1: How to input GSCLK

Part Number: TLC5941-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC5941, , TLC6C5724-Q1

Does TLC5941 support Auto_Repeat Mode?

As spec. say, we need to input 4096 GSCLKs in one period.

If we can't input fix GSCLK count, could we just input continuous GSCLK?

(if no Auto_Repeat Mode, what will happen if GSCLK run over 4096?)

If we can just input continuous GSCLK, will the frequency as higher as better?

how will the frequency effect LED driver result?

  • There is no auto repeat mode inside TLC5941-Q1, if you want such feature, i would recommend TLC6C5724-Q1.

For TLC5941-Q1, if you input continuous GSCLK, BLANK pin needs to be togged periodically to reset the GSCLK counter, then realize PWM output.

  • What's the impact if we input continuous GSCLK and it run over 2^N before toggle BLANK pin?

Will lead to lower LED brightness ? any other side effect?

Any way to compromise the side effect? ex: set larger output current?

    Thanks
  • It depends on how many cycles your are using. If it is far larger than 4096, the output will turn off after 4096, if you toggelt the BLANK after this, the pwm dutycyle will be reduced. If it is smaller than 4096, the output dutycycle will be increased.
