UCC28910: Operating voltage range

Part Number: UCC28910
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28720, PMP9243

We need some help on 3 projects ASAP.  All are relating to the UCC28910 and a similar fault condition, operating voltage range.  These are all of the products that we’re currently using the UCC28910 on.  All schematics and component info has been provided to 'Lough, Benjamin' ben.lough@ti.com and Jenkins, Darren d.jenkins@ti.com . Said files can be emailed as needed.

Product 1
Tested (single phase) voltage range: 214VAC minimum – untested maximum
Voltage range required: 140VAC - 630VAC

Product 2
Tested (single phase) voltage range: 80.5 – 263VAC
Voltage range required: 70VAC - 277VAC

Product 3
Tested voltage range: 85.8 - 245VAC
Voltage range required: 70VAC - 277VAC

  • Hello Eric,

Thank you for your consideration of the UCC28910 flyback controller with integrated switching MOSFET.
The maximum rating for the integrated MOSFET is 700V. For your Products 2 and 3, the input line of 277Vac represents a maximum rectified bulk voltage of 392V. This leaves another 308V available for flyback reflected voltage, leakage inductance spike, and margin to the limit.

The 630Vac input of Product 1 rectifies to 891V which clearly exceeds the 700-V absolute maximum rating of the UCC28910 device, not including any flyback voltage and other considerations. So the UCC28910 is not suited for direct use on this rail.
Please consider the UCC28720 flyback controller for BJTs as used in PMP9243 reference design for 583Vac input, for example: http://www.ti.com/tool/pmp9243
This design (and similar configurations) can be adapted to your extra high-voltage specifications.

    Regards,
    Ulrich
