BQ24259: abnormal current consumption

Part Number: BQ24259

Hi,

my customer is using BQ24259 in their product. All load are connected to SYS.

VSYS will be boosted to 5V to the OTG port through PMU to power external products like keyboard.

When the customer powers the system with battery and no adaptor, the current from the battery will be around 800mA.

But when they connect the OTG 5V to VBUS of BQ24259, the current from the battery will upgrade to about 1.3A.

It's a strange phenomenon and how can we explain it?

  • Howard,

If you draw the circuit with components, you can find the connection generates a loop with low impedance (OTG 5V, Q1, Q2, charger inductor, SYS, PMIC boost inductor, PMIC boost Sync FET, OTG 5V). The loop should be response for the extra loss.
