TPS23861: Can control the output current through I2C?

Part Number: TPS23861
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2384, TPS23841

Hi

Can TPS23861 control the output current through I2C?

We need to design a 802.3af 4-port PSE. Do TI have 802.3af chips or only 802.3at (TPS23861)?

Thank you

Jerry

  • Jerry,

The TPS2384 and TPS23841 are limited to Type 1 power levels...but we still recommend the TPS23861 for these applications due to the robustness of design support available for this newer solution.

When utilized in semiauto mode, it is possible to control the TPS23861 through I2C and an external MCU. To learn more immediately, please read section 7.4.3, which starts on page 41, of the datasheet located here --> www.ti.com/.../tps23861.pdf .

There are also multiple videos which discuss how to use system software to control the TPS23861 located on the "Support & Training" tab of the product folder located here --> www.ti.com/.../support.

If requiring additional help after reviewing these collateral pieces, please respond with your follow-on questions and our PSE Application Engineer will respond once we resume normal business hours on Monday, 4/29.

Thank you for your local support and promotion of PoE products from Texas Instruments,
