We are using the PTN04050CAD for a +15V source and have had a catastrophic failure. The part overheated and or the output Capacitor "C155" on our board failed. Can you provide the schematics of this module? Is there a failure mode where the output can exceed the set voltage? The board was functional and in operation since 2014 at a military facility.
There is not a failure mode that would cause this device to exceed the set-point by more than 200mV. If R205 was shorted, the output voltage would incease to 15.2V. Otherwise, all other failure modes should cause the output voltage to drop.
It is possible that C155 shorted and in turn caused the device to deliver excessive current. This device does not have short circuit protection due to the nature of a boost converter, there is a DC path from Vin to Vout.
What is the manufacturer's part number for C155?

C155 is Vishay 593D107X9020E2TE3. It is rated 20V and future designs have increased it to 35V based on the .5 de-rating factor recommendation but I don't think that was the problem. The unit was operating in the field for over a year. It's not out of the question that maybe the Cap was in backwards. I am investigating this possibility with a little forensic work. Can you give me the schematics for the PTN04050 module?
