UCC21710QDWEVM-025: Do we need an external IGBT or Load to test the EVM Board ?

Part Number: UCC21710QDWEVM-025
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC21710-Q1

We have to test the input and output switching wave forms, given in section 2.2.2 in the user guide. How do we simulate an IGBT on the output side. Do we need an IGBT on the Output or we ll just get the wave forms with out anyl oad

  • Hello,

You must use a load at the output of the gate driver to emulate the charging/discharging of the IGBT's gate. The EVM for UCC21710-Q1 includes a capacitive load at the output (C26, 10nF capacitor) to emulate the input capacitance of an IGBT or power MOSFET. You may also swap this capacitor for another which may be closer to the actual input capacitance of your IGBT. For true evaluation of a specific IGBT, it is best to replace the load capacitor with the actual switching device you will use in your application.
