TL4050A: Difference between TL4050A and LM4050

Part Number: TL4050A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM4050-N

Hello,

I wonder what is the difference between the LM4050 and TL4050A devices ?
I have seen in the datasheet that the LM4050 was released in 2000 and the TL4050 in 2007. The functional block diagram of their datasheets is identical.
Is-there a difference of silicon process between both ? Or is-it the same die used in both products ?

We did some radiation tests and the LM4050, and I would like to know if I can extend the results to the TL4050. If the die and silicon process are identical, I can.

Thank you,

Thomas

  • Hi Thomas,

The LM4050-N and the TL4050A are functionally similar devices. They perform the same functions and share a lot of similar specifications, but they are different devices. The LM4050-N was a National Semiconductor part that we integrated into our portfolio while the TL4050A was a TI part.

The die will not translate between both devices, so I do not recommend extending the results to the TL4050, but I would recommend you keep using the LM4050-N if you've already done your required testing on it. Although they are essentially the same, the LM4050-N datasheet has most recently been updated and is more commonly used.

    Thanks,
    Abhinav.
  • Hi Abhinav,

thank you for the very clear answer.
