I'm trying to interface the BQ4050EVM-561 with a ESP32 processor using SMBus.

I want to know how should I know my connections are correct?

What should the LED display show in order to know if the BQ4050EVM-561 is operating properly

Hi Omar

have you first tried evaluting the gauge with bqstudio to understand how the gauge works? I encourage you to do that first. zConnrcting your host to the gauge will just require the connections with the comm lines. You will be able to know if your connections are correct because ypu will be able to communicate with the gauge

No I didn't try BQstudio, the problem is I cannot get EV2300/2400 to use it in order to operate on BQstudio. Therefore, I'm trying to go with just ESP32 for now.
Are there any videos or diagrams that may show me the module while being connected and operating with BQstudio?

There is a diagram on the EVM user's guide. I would start there for now. Thanks! We also have another diagram on the bq40z50 EVM user's guide.

Hi Omar,

I am not familiar with the ESP32, but you can see the schematics and bqStudio screen shots in the EVM users guide at http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluuav7b/sluuav7b.pdf

Also, I am guessing you are going to have some kind of I2C interface from the ESP32, and you can look at the following document to configure the communication engine:

The commands that can be used to communicate are described in the "SBS Commands" section of the TRM
