BQ4050: Separate charge and discharge paths

Part Number: BQ4050
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00982, , BQSTUDIO

I am following the reference design TIDA-00982 (Non-Military Drone, Robot, or RC 2S1P Battery Management Solution Reference Design) to create a BMS with 3SP1 Pack using bq4050. The reference design uses a single charge and discharge paths controlled by charge and discharge FETs. But I am interested in implementing a separate charge and discharge paths as mentioned in SLUSC16B page No.15.I see from earlier posts taht there are no reference designs available in TI website.

If I create separate charge and discharge paths, what are the additional changes required in the circuit? How this can be taken care in bqStudio?

  • bqstudio has nothing to do with having a separate charge and discharge path. The circuit effectively remains the same other than having to block the path for current which the body diode of the fets provide when the fet is meant to be in an off state.

    thanks
