WEBENCH® Tools/LMZ14201: Design issues

Part Number: LMZ14201

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi,

i needed a 12V to -12V converter with 0.5A, got this design:

i have 2 things i dont understand in this design and will be happy if you could explain them:

1. The Cbyp capacitor see 24V and the capacitor recommended by the design is 10uF/6.3v capacitor

2. The EN voltage when input is 12V is  -8.8V, the enable threshold of this part is 1.18V

Thanks,

Shlomi

  • Hello Shlomi,

    1. The Cbyp capacitor should be rated for >24V in this case since it sits between VIN and -VOUT. I will follow up with the WEBENCH team to correct this if the voltage rating is wrong.
    2. The EN threshold is with respect to the IC return path which is -VOUT.
If VOUT is -12V, EN need to be at -10.82V for the part to stay enabled.

    Cheers,
    Denislav
