TLV758P: Maximum output capacitance

Part Number: TLV758P
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV759P, TPS7A90

Hi,

May I know if there is any issue for TLV758P when the load has 5 x 100uF output cap (several Vref used for DAC). The load current is around 100mA and output is 5V.

From the datasheet, it is showing maximum output capacitor is 220uF. I found most LDO having 220uF output cap.

Please let me know how to address this if there is any concern.

Or will TLV759P (1A) part be better?

Thanks.

  • Hi Gim,

TLV758P was designed, tested, and characterized for a maximum output capacitor of 220 uF as stated in the datasheet. As such, this is the maximum recommended capacitor.

If you wish to have higher output capacitance in your application, we highly recommend prototyping as you will be using the LDO outside of our datasheet recommendations. In particular you should monitor the input and output voltage on a scope while performing startup, shutdown, and load transient tests to determine if the performance meets your application requirements.

TLV759P was also designed, tested, and characterized for a maximum output capacitor of 220 uF. As such, this regulator would not be recommended. TPS7A90 is a 500 mA LDO that is able to have your intended output capacitance.

  • Hi Ryan,

Appreciate your feedback. I’ve checked TPS7A90 datasheet where there is no maximum output capacitance value stated. It stated 10uF is the nominal capacitance under Recommended Operating Condition.

Can you provide the maximum output capacitance value of this part?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Gim,

We have benched TPS7A90 with over 500 uF on the output; therefore, we do not anticipate any issue for your application. We do not have a recommended maximum output capacitor for this device.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
