TPS715: about minimum load current

Part Number: TPS715

When 12V was input to TPS71550 with no load, the output voltage was not 5V but 10 V or more.
Does this device specify a minimum load current?

  • Hi ,

TPS715 does not have a minimum load current required for regulation. Traditional linear regulators are not able to sink current to pull down the output voltage when the output voltage is biased higher than the regulation point. Rather it is up to the load to pull the voltage back down to regulation. Therefore, while debugging it is important to look for unintentional leakage paths that may be biasing your output voltage high. Common unintentional leakage paths are residual flux creating a path between two rails or diodes internal to the load for loads that require multiple input rails.

    Very Respectfully,
    Ryan
