PTH08T240W: Sometime the output is 0V after some time.

Part Number: PTH08T240W

Dears:

Sorry, the below issue not handled. And the below information as follows:

https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management/f/196/t/804508

1) I reviewed your schematic and it looks good. You mentioned that the part malfunctions after a certain amount of time, and I have a suspicion that the device might be going into Over Temperature Protection (OTP)? What are the temperature conditions?

Luck: Only before out of factory these boards have been aged at high temperature of 60℃, the other temperature is normal.

2) You also mentioned that some parts were re-welded. Do the parts after re-solder end up failing after some time?

Luck: There is no failed chip so far after re-welded parts, and I will let customer to pay attention it.

3) Can you provide us with waveforms of VIN and VOUT at start up and of devices where the output voltage goes to 0V after some time?

Luck: only have a pulse wile power on, and picture as follows:

Pls. give some advice!

  • Hi Lian,

If you say that after the devices are re-soldered (re-welded), they operate correctly, it is possible that the initial soldering of the device to the PCB did not make a proper connection.

Are PTH08T240W devices surface mount or through-hole? How are the devices being soldered to the PCB, wave solder or reflow oven?  What temperature is the solder profile reaching? See app-note slta054a for information on solder temperature and a sample profile.

    Regards, Jason

  • Hi Lian,

Can we get an update on Jason's questions? We haven't heard back from you in a while.

    Regards,

    Jimmy

  • Hi Jason:

    Pls. refer the below information:

Luck: I think I have a mistake description about it. The devices are re-soldered means customer re-welded a new PTH08T240W only by hand operation.

And if the initial soldering of device issue, we think the board will not work well for some time.

Luck: PTH08T240W devices surface through-hole and the first solder the device by wave solder. And the re-soldered is by hand operation.

    Thanks~

  • Hi Lian,

It would be helpful to understand the customer's solder process and profile.

Can you contact me directly at jarrigo@ti.com to discuss the details so we can resolve the issue?

    Thanks, Jason

  • Hi Jason:

I have sent you email, pls. kindly help to give some advice about the case.
