LM5160A: Minimum current load

Hi,

Following is described on the datasheet p.13;

"The minimum load current for continuous conduction mode is one-half the inductor’s ripple current amplitude."

Why is this restriction existed?

How is the device behavior if load current overs one-half the inductor's ripple current?

It is not exactly a restriction, this only means that in the PFM mode, the current will be continuous and the frequency will be constant.

Here is the video indicating the difference between Continuous Conduction mode and Discontinuous Conduction mode.

The device behaves normal and operates with the desired switching frequency when the load current is increased larger than 1/2 ripple current
