REG710-3: About input current at input voltage near setting output voltage

Part Number: REG710-3

Hello ,

About input current at input voltage near setting output voltage

Regarding to input current on REG710, my customer is asking a question.

(Question)

According to figure 8 in datasheet,

It seems that when input voltage is near setting output voltage, input current become to increase.

My understanding is correct?

If so, could you please tell us the mechanism(logic) why input current become to increase?

  • Hi Tao:

Sorry. It's pubilc holiday here. We will back tomorrow. Please wait with patience. Thanks for your kindly understanding!

  • Hi Tao:

Sorry that keep you waiting.  Firstly, please realize that this graph is about the Efficiency. It related to the input current but not exactly, and the Vin keeps changing.

The REG710x has different work modes for Vin larger than Vout as buck mode, and Vin smaller than Vout as boost mode. Typically speaking, the effeciency for buck mode is much higher than boost mode with similar Vin and same other parameters.

I hope have answer your questions.

  • Hello Minqiu,

I informed your answer to my customer and they could understand about efficiency specification.

    Many thanks!
