BQ24200: Capacitor selection and control of bq24200

Part Number: BQ24200
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24083

Want to charge the lithium battery, saw the BQ24200 chip, the charging voltage meets the requirements of 4.1V, and the charging current range also meets the requirements of 200mA.
But I have the following questions, according to the chip data sheet
1 In a typical circuit, capacitors C1 and C2 are polar capacitors. Is it feasible to select the chip capacitor (no polarity) in the actual circuit? C1 chooses 10uF, is it feasible for C2 to choose 1uF?
2 According to the voltage between TS and VSS to monitor the state of charge, is the chip directly processed inside, or need to externally add a processor chip to judge?
3 Is it possible to adjust the charging current by external setting, for example, setting 20/40/60/80mA four modes?

  • Hello

The BQ24200 has a number of limitations. Take a look at the BQ24083 output voltage can be set to 4.06V, not 4.1V but closer. But may meet your requirements.

"In a typical circuit, capacitors C1 and C2 are polar capacitors. Is it feasible to select the chip capacitor (no polarity) in the actual circuit? C1 chooses 10uF, is it feasible for C2 to choose 1uF?" -- Bill J - Yes, ceramic capacitor will work.

"According to the voltage between TS and VSS to monitor the state of charge, is the chip directly processed inside, or need to externally add a processor chip to judge?" --- Bill J - The TS pin will monitor battery temp and set hot and cold turn off points.

"Is it possible to adjust the charging current by external setting, for example, setting 20/40/60/80mA four modes?" -- Bill J - The BQ24200 will not provide any current regulation.  It is designed to work with a current limited external supply that will control current to battery.  When battery reaches charge voltage reaches voltage a voltage loop will control the output voltage.
