LM5160: Inductance Difference Between Webench and Excel Tool

Part Number: LM5160

Dear Team,

We use Webench and Excel tool for the design, but got different inductance value.

Can you help on checking it?

Webench:

VinMin: 35V

VinMax: 58V

Vout1: 10V, 0.05A

Vout2: 5.5V, 0.6A

User Preferred Frequency 300kHz

L=121.989uH

Excel:

L=227uH

  • Hi,

    It seems that both inductor value seems to be on the large side and it could be because the webench and calculator assumes that the inductor is calculated based on 30% or 40% ripple on 0.05A or 0.6A.

    Normally we calculate the ripple based on the full load of the IC. Since to get to 2A, we should be able to operate at 0.05A and 0.6A.

    If i look at the EVM they use a 47uH for 5V design. I would try to use this value first on your design and follow the EVM compensation for constant on time controller. Whether that is type 2 or type 3 ripple injection circuit. See figure 5 on below document for more detail.
