TPS62050: TPS62050

Part Number: TPS62050

Dear Sir,

I am designing an instrument that will use the TPS62050 to step down the voltage from 4 AA cells to 3.3V. The max current will be around 400 mA. Now, to ensure the safety of the instrument in case of failure, I ma considering how the overcurrent protector in the TPS62050 works. If the current is higher than 1.4A, the TPS62050 will shut down and then restart. But can you describe the cycle (i.e. the current will ramp up 200mA, 400mA, 800mA and then typical 1200mA before shutdown, but for how long time (each step and shutdown)?

I will use this information to determine the average power dissipation in case of short circuit in a component.

Best regards,

Rune Jacobsen

  • Hello,

this device, when it reaches the current limit, doesn't switch off and then restart. This feature is called HICCUP mode, and it is implemented in other devices.
In TPS62050, the duty cycle is  reduced, so the device is not shut off, and then it doesn't restart. About the soft start, you can have a look into figure 19 (page 17) where is shown that each step is around 250us.
