UC285: LDO suggestion

Part Number: UC285
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A39, TIDA-01232, TPS7A85

Team,

Customer need an LDO suggestions with the following specifications:

1)Input voltage: 6 V

Output Voltage: 5.5V @ 10Amps

2)Input voltage: 5.5V

Output Voltage: 5 V @ 10Amps

3)Input voltage: -6 V

Output Voltage: -5.5V @ 10Amps

4)Input voltage: -5.5V

Output Voltage: -5 V @ 10Amps

Not sure if 10A currrent & <0.5V LDOs might be there. But appreciate your suggestions on device / circuit to achieve same.

  • Prahlad,

We don't offer any LDOs which can deliver 10A of output current. Do you have any details for what you are trying to power here with the LDO that requires 10 A output current and 500 mV of dropout voltage? What is the input voltage source here?

Given it seems you're trying to power both positive and negative rails at the same level here, one consideration would be something similar to the TPS7A39 (dual-channel positive/negative LDO with monotonic start up) and then increasing the output current capability using an external pnp transistor. Take a look at the below application note for an example of how to boost the output current with this methodology.

Another option would be to select one of our high current LDOs and parallel multiple LDOs and share the current. Take a look at TIDA-01232 which uses 2 TPS7A85 devices (4 A LDO) to create a 7 A low-noise, high-current LDO.
