LMZ31707: Component Recommendation

Part Number: LMZ31707
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS56637, , TPS82130, LMZ31704

Hi team,

I’m looking for a small footprint, high efficiency and low cost DC/DC converter solution for 1.1V @ 3.75A, 1.5V @2.1A, and 2.5V @1A. I’d derate the 3.75A to 5 or 6A.

Input voltage is 12V nominal. PGOOD, Enable and Soft Start are considerations too.  Ideally, I’d have one variable output converter design, which is able to be repeated and modified for the three outputs.I looked at Webench®Power Designer as a start and found TPS56637 and then TPS5331 for a discrete design.

I also found the modules LMZ31707RVQR andTPSM84624MOLR. Currently I’m favoring the LMZ31707RVQR because of the symmetrical pad configuration more than anything else.

To me it looks like all these, plus many many more options will work for me. Too many choices. Can you offer any input that will steer me a preferred selection?

I’m looking to select something that will also be in the marked for a long time and is readily available. (lots of others are already using it!)

Do you have a go-to suggestion?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi,

Looks like you are on the right track. I would say the LMZ31707 would be a great fit to satisfy the application requirements that you've listed.

How low of an efficiency is the customer okay with? The TPS82130 may also be an alternative solely based on solution size being the primary decisive factor.

    Regards,

    Jimmy

  • The LMZ31707 is the device that I would recommend. It meets all of your requirements along with being readily available and lots of others are using it.

Additionally, the LMZ31704 (4A device) is pin-to-pin compatible with the LMZ31707 in case you don't want to derate so much for your 1A and 2.1A outputs.
