UCD90SEQ64EVM-650: Connecting external I2C Master to UCD90SEQ64EVM-650 PMBUS interface

Part Number: UCD90SEQ64EVM-650
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD90120A, MSP-TS430PEU128

I am prototyping some MSP430 code to interface with a UCD90120A device via eUSCI_B I2C.  I have access to a UCD90SEQ64EVM-650 board with a similar UCD90120A device already installed.  I was hoping I'd be able to jumper the eUSCI_B I2C interface from my MSP-TS430PEU128 EVM to the PMBUS Data/Clock lines on the UCD90SEQ64EVM-650 to accomplish some quick testing.  Is this possible, or does the UCD90SEQ64EVM-650 only support PMBUS access via USB?

  • Hello

Yes, you can connect the SCL/SDA/GND of your external I2C master to the corresponding pins of EVM.  You may not use the USB power to power on the EVM. Please check the EVM user guide for the instructions.

    Thanks

  • Hi Yihe,

Thank you very much for responding to my question.  I'm glad to hear that I should be able to make this work.

Can you please point me to the paragraph in the EVM users guide where I can find those instructions?  I can't seem to locate it.  I only see information regarding the setup of the PMBus address, but not how to configure the board for use with an external I2C interface.  I am using SLVU423–December 2010.  Is this the correct document?

    Regards,

    Shane

  • Hello

Please be sure that do not use the USB to power the board, instead use a standalone 5V support to power the EVM

    Regards

    Yihe

  • Hi Yihe,

I am using a 5V bench supply to power my EVM.  Do you know if any other setup is required?  Or should I be able to jumper SCL, SDA, and GND between the two boards and start testing?

    Regards,

    Shane

  • Hello

Yes, it shall be fine once you have SCL/SDA/GND connected.

    Regards
