BQ76920: Short Circuit mechanism

Hello;

Is my understanding correct that unlike the OV/UV detection methods (ADC results every 250ms), the short circuit mechanism is actually a HW comparator which continually monitors the sense resistor against a pre-programmed threshold, and intervenes within the 32Khz period? If so, does that mean the discharge enable will drop within 1/32K seconds?

    Hi Jeffrey,

    The discharge FET will turn off after the time programmed by the SCD_Delay option. The options are 70us, 100us, 200us, or 400us. Since a 32kHz clock is used to sample the comparator, there is some variation with each of these settings - the min max for each setting is defined in the spec table of the datasheet.
