TPS54618-Q1: Current sharing

Part Number: TPS54618-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54620

I am designing TPS54618-Q1 into an application. I wonder if two TPS54618-Q1 can do load sharing. If yes, how to do the load sharing? Will the following work?

  • Michael,

Unfortunately TPS45618-Q1 is not designed for current sharing,  You certainly cannot just tie two outputs together.  In 2010 I wrote an application note about parallel operation for a similar device, TPS54620.  You can find it here:

It was a finicky design and the current sharing accuracy will depend on how closely the power stage transconductance is matched.  I believe the tolerance is around 30%.  I really can't say that I would recommend that approach if you need close matching in a production environment.  If you are building a few and can match the TPS54618-Q1, then it should work.  You can contact me directly if you have questions about it.
