CSD95495QVM: Leaving Some Pins Open in Applications Other than Buck Converter.

Part Number: CSD95495QVM

Dear TI Team,

I am considering using CSD95495QVM as a half bridge in my design recently. The application is not buck converter, so actually I don't need the function of some pins like VOS, IOUT, LSET and TAO. I notice that the LSET and VOS are used for internal current sensing circuitry. Since the integrated power stage (DrMOS) might need some current sensing to set the deadtime, I am not sure if these pins are related with that. Can I just leave them open? Will leaving them open affect the normal operation of this DrMOS?

  • Hi user4650577,

Thanks for your interest in the CSD95495QVM.

Even though you are not using the sensing features of the device you will need to connect some of the pins correctly to ensure proper operation of the device.  LSET and REFIN both have open pin detection circuitry that may prevent the device from operating if they are not set properly.  VOS is also important to connect to get the current sense to regulate properly and, as you guessed, the current sense is important to the dead-time circuit.  TAO is an output, so it can be left floating if you are not using the temperature or fault reporting features of the device.

    Best Regards,

    Evan

  • Dear Evan,

Thank you for your reply! The information is very helpful, but is there any reference material that guides you to set the resistance value of the LSET? Also, I am using the chip for the dual active bridge application, which doesn't have an output dc bus after the series inductor. What should I connect to the VOS pin then? The datasheet of this product is a little bit too simple.

    Regards,

    Ping

  • Hi Ping,

Please go to the main product folder for this product http://www.ti.com/product/CSD95495QVM and in the box titled More Information and Sample Availability you will find a link to request the full datasheet.  The current sense circuit is only designed to work with a simple buck converter topology, so it will not be able to work properly for your application.  Since you are not interested in the sensed information, you could still try to use the part, but the dead-time may not be optimized for peak efficiency.  To be clear, this is not a recommended use of this device.

    Regards,

    Evan
