TPS40345: Can our synchronous buck controller working in bidirectional mode?

Part Number: TPS40345

Hi,

my customer need 14-20V input, 12V output buck circuit designed for battery charge and discharge system.

When discharging the battery, the energy will flow from 12V to 14-20V, can our device support that?

If not, why synchronous buck circuit is not inherently bidirectional?

Any analog device (buck, buck-boost, converter, controller) can support bidirectional?
