TPS61230: Boost Convert Input equal to Output

Part Number: TPS61230
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61232

Dear community,

I would like to know what happen if we set TPS61230/TPS61232 output at 5V, and supply input is 5V.

Will the output be 5V, or the converter will stop working. Since I saw the datasheet say input voltage range range from 2.5-5.5V.

And if input voltage is 5.5V, how can the output be 5V (since this is Boost Topology)

  • Hi,

When Vin is 5V, Vout is still 5V because considering the power loss of inductor and mosfet, it still needs switching to supply power to output capacitor.

When Vin is in the range of 5-5.5V, high side mosfet will be 100% on so Vout equal Vin minus voltage drop of high side mosfet. It enters bypass mode.
