CSD87381P: CSD87381P Drive Voltage

Part Number: CSD87381P
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD87333Q3D, CSD87353Q5D, CSD87334Q3D

Hi everyone,

I would like to use the CSD87381P module for my motor driver application. My voltage source has 12V, my motor driver IC is DRV83053. In CSD87381P's datasheet, maximum driving voltage is 8V.

So that,

Can I use the CSD87381P module with DRV83053 ? If not, please suggest me some ICs for this mosfet module.

Thanks.

  • Hi Ali,

Thanks for the questions. I believe you may exceed the CSD87381P Vgs abs max rating (10V) driving it with the DRV83053. Please review the gate driver specs in the Electrical Characteristics on pages 7 & 8 of the DRV datasheet. Depending on PVDD, the output of the gate drivers can be as high as 10.5V which exceeds the abs max rating for the CSD87381P. I wouldn't recommend pairing the DRV83053 with the CSD87381P unless PVDD is limited to 5.5V max. Another thing to consider is the CSD87381P is optimized for low duty cycle synchronous buck converters. As such, the two MOSFETs are asymmetric: the high side FET is a small die with higher rds(on) and the low side FET is a larger die with much lower rds(on). In most motor drive applications I am familiar with, the FETs are sized the same. You should consider a power block with symmetric FETs such as the CSD87333Q3D or CSD87334Q3D  in 3.3 x 3.3mm QFN or the CSD87353Q5D in 5 x 6mm QFN. Please review and let me know if you have any additional questions.
