BQ24640: Difference between BQ24640 and other normal chargers

Part Number: BQ24640
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24610

Hi,

I wish to know the difference between the BQ24640, which is a charger particularly for the super-cap and other normal chargers. Does BQ24640 have any special function?

Best Regards

  • Hi Wenxiu,

Normal batteries cannot be charged with high currents in deeply discharged states, which is why these chargers need to have the ability to charge at lower currents (pre-charge current) until battery voltage reaches a safe level. Supercap do not have this issue, and can be directly charged with high currents in deeply discharged state. This is why you can see the difference in the CC-CV profile of BQ24640 (figure 8. of datasheet) and BQ24610 (figure 13. of datasheet) when output voltage is low.
