TPS74801-Q1: TPS74801-Q1 and TPS7A54-Q1 need preferred part Suggestion

Part Number: TPS74801-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A54-Q1

Hi,

We are planning to use the TPS74801-Q1 or TPS7A54-Q1 for our application. Need suggestion which part is best for our need and support from TI:

1. Vout= 1.24V, Iout= 0.3A , Vin= 1.8

2. Which one suits best for efficiency and lowest power drops for this application.

3. Our requirement  is to achieve 1.5% accuracy.

Please suggest the desired part or if any other option also welcome .

THanks

Vikas G.

  • Hello Vikas,

Based on your requirements, I would recommend the TPS7A54-Q1 over the TPS74801-Q1.
I would also recommend taking a look at the TPS736xx-Q1 to see if it can be used in your application.
If you do not require operation above 125C temperature, the TPS736xx-Q1 may be a better fit.
Regardless of your selection, please be sure to consider any transient conditions on your line and load, and use the datasheet guidance to properly handle those transients so you can maintain your 1.5% accuracy.

The TPS7A54-Q1 has less than 50mV of dropout voltage, which is met by the 1.8-1.24 = 560mV of headroom in your requirement set.  The TPS7A54-Q1 also has +/-1% accuracy for your requirements across the temperature range of -40C through +125C.

The TPS74801-Q1 holds an accuracy of +/-2% across the temperature range of -40C through +125C.  This component also requires a bias voltage higher than the requirements in the forum post: the datasheet specifies no less than 2.7V.  Therefore I would not recommend this component for your application.

The TPS7A54-Q1 has an accuracy of +/-1% over your operating conditions, but goes only to +125C.  The ground current draw is less than the TPS7A54-Q1 and should be more efficient in your application.
