BQ27742-G1: Unable to set [QEN] bit

Part Number: BQ27742-G1

Hi,

I started using a BQ27742-G1 in one of my recent designs. While the part works flawlessly as a protector, I experience difficulties making it work a s a gauge.

I'm trying to get complete manual learning cycle with SDI INR21700-40T.

I entered the cell parameters, programmed similar chemistry (took SDI INR21700-50E from latest chemistry update).

Went over discharge and relax, but when the relax time came to an end, I've got Error: [QEN: Not Set] [RUP_DIS / RDIS: Not Clear]. Update Status remained 0.

After reading forums I understood that I need to set QEN by issuing IT_ENABLE command. Manually, during relax, by analyzing data graph, seeing stable voltage. Is that right?

However, whatever I tried I was unable to get QEN=1. Of course, gauge was unsealed (both FAS=0 and SS=0, tried also only SS=0). Tried after reset, after complete power-down with cell removal. What am I doing wrong?

Another question: what drives RUP_DIS flag? should I do something to manually affect it or it is managed automatically during learning cycle?

Thanks a lot and Best Regards,

Boris.

  • Hi Boris

Qen will get set by sending the IT enabled. Are you clicking the IT_enable button in command

Can you take a screen shot of your register window.

The gauge controls the rup dis flag. Issuing a reset command sets rup dis flag. Don't use the learning cycle plug in to do learning cycle. It doesn't always work.

    thanks

  • Hi Onyx,

I'm clicking on IT_ENABLE button and actually nothing happens. I tried to do manual refresh of the Control Status register and saw the same QEN=0. Onyx, You suggested not to use learning cycle plug in, but how can I perform learning cycle otherwise?

Thanks a lot and Best Regards,

    Boris.

  • Hi Boris,

Can you attempt to reprogram the default firmware on the device to see if it will accept the IT enable command?

    Also,

To perform the learning cycle, pls follow the app note in the link below:

    thanks
