BQ27010: Next gen of BQ27010

Part Number: BQ27010
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27320

Hello team,

Hope you are doing well .Please see below customer question:

We have a pack that uses the bq27010 for the gas gauge. Based on the datasheet I have for it, this part came out in 2007.

Has a compatible but updated version been released since?

The part has 1 feature that annoys a large number of users. A learning cycle must be performed every 32 cycles unless a “valid” (deep) discharge was performed.

That doesn’t always happen in the real world.

If my memory is correct, the newer TI ‘bq’  gas gauges no longer have this requirement. Of course, the data protocol/register interface must be compatible with the existing radio designs that work with the bq27010.

  • hi Randhir,

They need to use a different type of device like our impedance track gauges. CEDV algorithm which is on the bq27010 requires deep discharge to learn the FCC. There is no way around this. The next gen device which is the bq27320 is neither pin to pin compatible and the register maps are different.

IT on the other hand requires only 37% of design capacity passed charge. The bq27520 is a good IT device you can use.

    thanks

    Onyx

  • As always, Onyx coming through with perfect response. Thank you Sir.
