BQ27GDK000EVM: Connecting BQ27GDK000EVM to BQ27530EVM

Part Number: BQ27GDK000EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27530EVM, EV2400

I have a BQ27GDK000EVM (GDK) and a BQ27530EVM. I'd like to connect the BQ27530EVM to the GDK so that I can run battery characterization and learning cycles, but the connection from the BQ27530EVM and the GDK isn't obvious (I've been though all the reference material, the BQ27530EVM seems to be slightly different than the EVMs that the GDK manual outlines how to connect)

What connections need to be made from the BQ27530EVM to the GDK? Also, does the BQ27530EVM get powered from the GDK or does it need to be powered from a separate power supply when connected to the GDK?

Thank you

  • Hi Aric,

The bq27530 Evm has got an onboard charger that will make connecting it to the GDK which has a charger of its own. You will have to disable the charger on the bq27530EVM using jp5 and then connect the battery to pack + and pack -  on the evm and then the gdk load + should be connected to pack + on the  gauge evm and the load - should be connected to j10 on the gauge evm

    thanks

  • Onyx,

Thank you! I made the wrong assumption that the EVM's charger would still be used  while in configuration with the GDK.

Let me ask two follow up questions:

    1. Will using the GDK's charger instead of the EVM's charger have any unwanted impact on the creation of the golden image?

    2. Can I use GDK's EV2400 only as a way to communicate to the EVM? That is, power the EVM with another power supply, use it as the charger+fuel gauge, and talk to it though the GDK's EV2400?

    Thanks again.

  • 1. No.

    2. Yes, i do that all the time.

    thanks
