ULN2003V12: 5ch is connected in parallel

Part Number: ULN2003V12

Hi, staff

ULN2003V12

Our customer's design specification drives the solenoid with a supply current of 16V and a sink current of 500mA.

The data sheet thinks that 500mA can be sinked if 5ch is connected in parallel (100mA × 5ch)
Is there any problem with that idea?
best regards

  • Hi Cafain,

    This use case is compliant with the datasheet but do note that the datasheet spec was built at VINx=3.3V.

    Thank you for using TI Power Switches in your designs.

  • Thanks for the answer
    Let me ask additional questions.
    The question is how to calculate power consumption.
    Normally we think that the power is calculated by "Pd= VC × Ic" for each channel, but I would like to check the calculation method when using 5channels of one package.

    Please tell me how to calculate the power consumption when 5ch is connected in parallel and 2ch is not used.
    * Vc = 16V, Ic = 0.5A (5ch × 0.1A)

  • Hi Cafain,

    The best way to calculate power dissipation through this device is by V_ce*Ic(tot).

    In your situation Ic(tot) is 0.5A and the V_ce is 0.75V assuming you are running off a 3.3V INx and 100mA of current flows per channel.

    P_tot = 0.5*0.75 = 0.375W
