REF5040: About RMS voltage Noise @ REF5040

Part Number: REF5040
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Hi team

I want data of RMS output  voltage noise by this device.

Do you have any graph of RMS voltage noise vs frequency ?

Best regards.

teritama

  • Hi Teritama,

As you noticed, we do not specify the RMS noise on the datasheet. If you need an accurate RMS noise, the REF5040 TINA-TI reference design in the link below will show you an accurate simulation of noise. You can use the simulation to your specific system condition and simulate the noise.

Use: Analysis > Noise in TINA-TI

  • Hi Marcoo,

    Thank you early reply.

I tried simulation at TINA-TI with reference design on the link.

I show this result of Noise analysis bellow.

On this graph we can see there is peak around 37kHz.

I thought the result would be as shown below.

I want to know if this result is characteristic of device or indicates that filter is required.

If filter is required please teach recommended value.

    Best regards.

  • Hi Teritama,

That peak is due to the output cap and cap on the trim pin.

See the following E2E for graphs on noise based on changing the output cap value. I would not worry about creating a filter based on the peak from the output capacitor. This peak from output capacitor is applicable to all output load caps on all devices not just the REF50xx family.
