PTD08D210W: Temperature Sense Output

Part Number: PTD08D210W
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD9248, UCD9220

Hi,

I am using PTD08D210W (dual regulator/module) with power controller UCD9248. Both channels of this module are controlled by 2 rails of UCD9248. However, during monitoring on TI Fusion Digital power designer i observed that temperature readings of both rails were different. Why is this happening?

The PTD08D210W has a single temperature sense output pin which is connected via mux to the temperature sense input of power controller UCD9248. Please see the attached image of schematic for information. Any help regarding the issue will be appreciated.

  • Hi Qammar,

Is there a reason why you needed to mux the TSENSE signal from U39 (PTD08D210W) going into the UCD9248. There is an example schematic of a typical dual output application shown in Figure 22. The typical schematic shows the TSENSE lines going directly into a UCD9220 device's TEMP pin. I would if you disconnected the CD74HC4051PWT mux and instead connected the TSENSE from the U39 directly into the TEMP pin of the UCD9248 device, will the temperature readings be similar between TSENSE and TI Fusion Digital Power Designer GUI.

    Regards,

    Jimmy

  • Hi Qammar,

Take a look at this older forum post (link). Looks a lot like the problem you are encountering. Let me know if this helps?

In the meantime, I will reach out to the digital support group on UCD9248 and get back to you as soon as possible.

    Regards,
    Alejandro

  • Thank you for your response @Jimmy Hua.

Multiplexer was needed to multiplex the temperature sense outputs of all DC-DC converters connected to all 4 rails of UCD9248. Bypassing the multiplexer will inhibit temperature sensing of other DC-DC converter modules.

  • Hi Qammar,

Thank you for explaining the application. I will get in contact with Alejandro to see the status of feedback with the UCD9248 support group to see if there might be any further recommendations and insight on this temperature delta.

I hope to get updates from them early next week and have Alejandro continue with support. Sorry for not replying in time and thank you for your patience.

    Regards,

    Jimmy

  • Hi Qammar,

Unfortunately, I have not heard from the other team. I will try to connect you with the support team for UCD9248 as early as next week.

    Regards,
    Alejandro

  • Hi All,

The original design team and apps team of UCD9248 are no longer with our product line.

I can not find anyone who is familiar with this part.

    Sorry about it.

    Thanks

    Qian

  • Hi Qammar,

As we have not heard back from you since 9/13, have you resolved your issue? For now I have marked a previous response from Alejandro as "TI Thinks Resolved."

If you still would like help debugging, feel free to reply again.

    Regards,
    Kris
