TLC59116-Q1: Seven segment led driver using TLC59116-Q1

Part Number: TLC59116-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC6C598-Q1,

TLC59116-Q1 Is  reliable solution to drive two 7 segment display drive in automotive solution ? As I have limited no of pins available on controller I can't use TLC6C598-Q1. or is there any solution available in which only 2 pins can drive 2 7 segment led displays. also in case of TLC6C598-Q1 what is the minimum input pin connections required ?

Thank you.

  • Hi waman,

1)TLC59116-Q1 Is  reliable solution to drive two 7 segment display drive in automotive solution ?

A: TLC59116-q1 can sateisfy your need, But the maximum voltage is 7V, so you should add a LDO or buck between battey and device.

2)As I have limited no of pins available on controller I can't use TLC6C598-Q1.

A:Do you mean MCU only left 3 GPIO pins for contriling device and two of them are I2C IO?

3)is there any solution available in which only 2 pins can drive 2 7 segment led displays. also in case of TLC6C598-Q1 what is the minimum input pin connections required ?

A:Could you describe your system more detail(like how many MCU pins for device , the PINs' type UART? or SPI or GPIO?, the led's parameters),then I  can help you to find a suitable solution. For TLC6C598-Q1, if you only ues one chip in your application. I think 4pins (SER IN,SRCK,CLR,RCK) you should connect to MCU at least.

  • Hello Frank,

I am just looking for driving 2 seven segment LED display having 25mA of each segment current rating ? This I need to implement into existing board,As I have less space on board I am looking for minimum wiring interface with Controller(In that case I2C is prefer). Do you have any recommendation for my requirement ? also Is there any second source for this TLC59116-Q1 is available ? Two drivers with 8 bits are also ok for me ?

    Thank you in advance.

  • Hi

I think  TLC59116-Q1 is suit for your need,
