CSD18503KCS: Replacing Vishay Fets in TIDA-004 Refrencd Design?

Part Number: CSD18503KCS
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD, CSD18510Q5B, CSD18503Q5A

Hello Team,

We would like to use TI MOSFETS. So checked that the CSD18503 and CSD18510 are good options for the replacing the Vishay Fets in BMS TIDA-004 reference design. ( I mean, CSD 18503 for Hi and Low side MOS or CSD18510 for Hi side and Low side MOS)

  • Hi Julio,

Thanks for your interest in our FETs. I took a look at the TIDA-0040 documentation and pulled up the FDS8447 datasheet. It's actually a Fairchild (now part of OnSemi) 40V, 10.5mOhm FET in SOIC-8 package. The reference design is using the same FET for both high side and low side.  If you want to use footprint compatible parts, then you should go with the 5x6 SON package (Q5A/Q5B suffix). The two parts you have selected are available in this package: CSD18503Q5A and CSD18510Q5B. They have much lower rds(on) FETs than the FDS8447 used in the reference design. We probably want to look at some alternates. Can you tell me the requirements: Vin, Vout (or # series cells) and max charging current? That will help me provide you with recommendations.

  • John,

Than you so much for the feedback, Vin is going to ba  24VDC, Vout will vary based on the voltage of the pack which will be 12-16.8V with a charging current from 0.5A min to 1A max. Let me know if there are any other alternatives to consider.

  • Hi Julio,

I am going to close this thread. Please feel free to contact me via email if you have any additional questions.
