BQ27530-G1: When will the technical reference manual be available?

Part Number: BQ27530-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24161

Hello!

In another post ( from Aug 2019 ), the support guy said that a TRM for BQ27530 will be available in a couple of month. Two month has passed but there is none on the TI web-site. Please make it available.

Best regards,

Alexandru Petrescu

  • hi Alexandru.

Can you pls direct me to that post? I do not believe that is correct information. This device was released in  early times when we didn't have TRMs  and most addresses are contained in the data sheet. The TRM for the bq27531 can be referenced if the data sheet for the b27530 falls short in description. Sorry for your trouble

    thanks

    Onyx

  • Hello Onyx,

This post is created as related question to the original post I was referring. You can access the original thread by clicking on the top of this page. Reviewing it now I've noticed it was you that said a TRM for BQ27530 will be released in a couple of month. To back up what the other engineer said, I can assure you I have the same problems in trying to make the firmware to control the BQ27530 + BQ24161. What I miss the most is the information on how I can control the charger in host mode ( via gauge ). But other information is missing from the datasheet:

    1. Only one command is explained. Where is the explanation for AtRate(), AtRateTimeToEmpty(), Temperature(), ... etc ... etc ...

    2. The information on how the BQ27530 is controlling the charger ( BQ24161 ) is missing all together. The TRM for BQ27531 is of little help as it's using of another charger chip ( BQ24191 ).

    3. Where the "Charger Options [BYPASS]" footnote is explained.

So, when can I expect to see the TRM on the web-site?

    Thanks,

    Alexandru Petrescu

  • Hi Alexandru

Ps reread my response. I never said it was a couple of months. I said several months.

I have  pinged the team  again but this is not something I can control. The bq24161 and the bq24191 are similar. The control process of the bq27531 and the bq27530 and their respective chargers is similar. In order for me to be more helpful here in the absence of the TRM, can you enumerate your specific questions that are not addressed in the TRM for the bq27531 and we will do our best to address them one by one.

    thanks

    Onyx

  • Hello Onyx,

You are right, it was several month. But, I can't help to wonder, if the BQ27530 + BQ2416x is so similar to BQ27531 + BQ2419x, why it takes SEVERAL MONTH to make the changes? And for what reason there isn't complete documentation available on the TI web-site after 6 ( SIX ) years since the BQ27530 has been in production? I'm sure the development of the chipset took a lot less.

As for getting the info via you as relay, well, I'd rather use the same method used by other engineers: reverse engineering on the evaluation kit. But, until the EVM kit arrives, you can help me by telling me what are the gauge commands for accessing the BQ24161 charger. The charger interface is missing from the BQ27530 datasheet. And, on the BQ24161 datasheet, at the register map chapter, every register has a memory location specified. In layman terms, which address (gauge) is associated with what register memory location on the charger.

    Thanks,

    Alexandru Petrescu

  • Hi Alex

I did some digging, and it does appear we have a TRM which is still in draft stages, but looks like it was never released. See attached. I hope this helps you make some progress. Sorry for the trouble.

    2627.bq27530-G1 SLUUA73 TRM Draft 20Sept2013.pdf

    thanks

  • Hello Onyx,

I really appreciate the fact that you are really trying to help me. But that document is aprox. 85% copied from BQ27531 TRM. And the charger interface is 100% identical. And this means it isn't what I need. Anyway, forgot to mention in the first post that I stumbled upon that draft when I googled for BQ27530 TRM. So, someone started to do its job but somehow didn't finished it. Please remove it from the TI server because it doesn't do any good.

    Regards,

    Alexandru Petrescu

  • Hello Alexandru,

Thanks for your feedback. We are working on it internally to improve it.
