Alternative to LTC4412

We need a power path controller, which can switch two power sources (12V SMPS Power and 7.4V Li-ion Battery) automatically and also able to detect the presence of the source through controller. For this we are using LTC4412. But currently it is not available in our market and also the price is two high. So, can you please suggest me some IC by TI (power path controller), which can replace LTC4412?

When I contacted to TI for an alternative to LTC4412, they have suggested TPS2314. But, as I have seen, there is no STATUS pin to detect the Power source. You can see that a status pin is available in LTC4412 to detect the power source.So, Can you please suggest me another IC which can do ORing and also can able to detect the power source like LTC4412.

Hello Aakash,

We recommend to use TPS2410 device which is an ORing controller for N-Channel MOSFET and has status and fault indication.

It can operate 0.8V to 16.5V and suitable for a 12V SMPS and 7.4V Li-ion Battery.

Dear Texas,

Thanks for the suggestions. But, TPS2410 is not available to our vendor (E-14). Meanwhile, I have found another IC (LM5050-1). I have done the simulation also. Please check the circuit before drawing the schematic. Please verify the circuit. If some necessary changes require, please suggest me so that I can draw the schematic correctly.

LM5050-1 circuit works well for this application, however, LM5050-1 will have leakage current of 1-2mA from 12V adapter power to battery when Vs pin is connected to OUT pin of IC.

If this leakage current is not acceptable, then as we have suggested earlier, it is recommended to use LM74700 in place of LM5050.

Let me compare LM74700 with LM5050. After that if LM74700 will suit for our application, I will get back to your team regarding the schematic of LM74700.

So, let me provide sometime to study those ICs.
