TPS7B4250-Q1: Expanding rating of output current

Part Number: TPS7B4250-Q1

I want to get output current more than 50 mA from the device.

Provided, 7 V IN ,5 V OUT and 150 mA output current

In above case, the power dissipation in the device is 300 mW only, less than 350 mW (7 V * 50 mA)

Am I wrong?

  • Hi,

TPS7B4250-Q1 is rated for 50mA; however, the current limit of this device has a min of 100mA and max of 500mA. Potentially you could use it for higher than 50mA current, but the reliability of the device may get affected since it's only rated for 50mA.

When calculating the power, you should use (Vin - Vout) x load current. For your case, it's 300mW. For thermal consideration, you can find the example in 10.3 of the datasheet.

I would recommend you to use TPS7B42540-Q1 for 150mA rated output current.

Your answer is perfectly same as what I have expected.

    I will take it

    Thanks again
