UA79: US79 Maximum Positive Input Voltage

Part Number: UA79

UA79 data sheet lists the max negative input voltage as -35V.   The data sheet does not list if positive voltages will damage the device and the max positive voltage.

What is the max positive input voltage allowed?

Will +5V on the input damage the device?

  • Hi Rich,

This is a very old component and comprehensive data on this device is lacking, as compared to one of our newer devices.
This component also predates transistor simulations, as those models did not exist back in 1976 when the part was created, so we are limited with that support as well.

I reviewed our internal databases on this component but did not find any additional information on the parameter you are interested in.
I would say 0V is the max voltage that can be applied to the Vin of the component.  +5V on the input of the device will likely damage the component, either by exceeding some internal transistor value, or possibly turning on the ESD diodes which should not be conducting under normal operation.

If you would like to investigate a more modern linear regulator, you can use our search tool on TI's website to review more modern options.  Alternatively you can offer your requirements and one of our engineers can give you some suggestions.
