UCC21530EVM-286: UCC21530EVM-286

Part Number: UCC21530EVM-286
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC21530

Hi,

I would like to know if I could I use this evaluation board readily to drive 2 discrete IGBTs.

Thanks

  • Hi, Tanya,

Thanks for your question. The UCC21530 definitely can drive multiple FETs - you just need to calculate the power dissipation as shown in the data sheet.

Also, I would recommend a series gate resistor leading to each FET's gate. This prevents the IGBTs from oscillating.  You can read about how to size these gate resistors in this Tech Note:

As for using the EVM to do this, it may work, but the way you connect everything together will be critical. If the gate drive loop is not tight, you will run into problems. For best performance, I would recommend you layout your own board so you can optimize the gate loop.

Let us know if you have further questions.
